Our past two weeks

music: BBC Cambridgeshire
mood: Good, I guess

Hi all,

It has been two weeks since I have last written this diary and I apologise for that, but I just can't help it. I still think that life goes so fast sometimes it's hard to keep up with it.

These two weeks have been alright though... Last weekend we suddenly had a friend of us, Leo, visiting. He really wanted to leave for home after an hour but in the end I talked him into staying! So in the end he only left on the Sunday, after having slept on our couch for the night. We had a great time! Just chatting and laughing and drinking wine...
He was also really sweet as he decided we could treat ourselves and thus he bought a Ben & Jerry's ice cream. Yummy! Normally I don't buy it as it is so expensive but sometimes it is also so nice. That was a nice addition to a very nice weekend.

This weekend we had friends coming over who we had last seen around Angela's birthday. They were so sweet as they took us out for dinner (their treat) and they also gave me some travelling money for the trip to the UK!
The restaurant we ate at is walking distance from our home and we had never been there. It's a really nice place to eat though, small but warm and really good food! Definitely good for an evening out. Especially because we don't have to drive and thus are able to drink! wink
After eating there we went home where we had an other drink. After this they went home as it would still be a 2 hour drive. I loved it! It was great seeing them again, just chatting and having a good time.

However, next to all of these nice things that have happened there's also something which is a lot more negative.
Angela's aunt, Ria, has been in the hospital from the Tuesday before my birthday. From one day to the next she suddenly went off the scale with her blood sugar level, 30+. It doesn't stop there though...she also doesn't feel like her left arm belongs to her and her memory is mixed up a bit. When you give her a washcloth and tell her to wash herself she says she will just look at the washcloth not knowing HOW to do it. It seems like something is definitely wrong, however they can't yet find anything. This makes it difficult though: if you don't know what causes all these symptoms then you can't accurately cure it.

That's our life at the moment... I guess we will just have to see where Ria's story goes. It is just irritating though that another year starts with hospital visits and health problems. We don't know how this is going to end. What we do know however is that it will definitely take a while. This already because her sugar level is still around 12...which is still way too high.

Anyway...on with some admin and a little bit of English study.

See you later!
Jacqueline

My birthday party & England

music: BBC One - Watchdog
mood: Very, very good

Hi everyone,

Yes, it has been a while but sometimes I just don't feel like writing. Now I do though, as I finally have got something nice to tell!

I've had my birthday the 14th of January, last Saturday, and it was so great! I loved seeing my friends again and in the end we made it 2:30 at night. Then Martine & Jan left and also Phil and we went home. My colleagues were there too and a lot more people too! It was just great, having fun, chatting etc.
Even though sometimes it was difficult to chat with everyone, especially in the beginning of the evening as there were so many people at the same time.
It seemed everyone enjoyed themself and so did I and Angela...it was just great.

Anyway...something else exciting: I booked a flight to the UK for both Angela and me. People (especial my Aunt Annie) were so generous that we can just afford a short break to Newbury. The place we have lived at for 10 months (me) and 14 months (Angela). Last time we went there was 3.5 years ago and I am so homesick to the place, so I really really really wanted to have a trip there as my 30th birthday present!
And yep: it worked. Even though we don't have a lot of money to spent there (during 5 days) I can't care less! I am just looking forward to seeing our friends again, walking around in Newbury town centre, maybe see some of my ex-colleagues...

Also a really big thanks to Phil's mum. She told us we can stay at her place during those 5 days. Without this help we would never have been able to do this. So thanks Phil's mum!!

Only an other 5 weeks to go and counting!

Hugs, Jacqueline
