Today after work Angela and I went to the hospital to visit dad. Because she had already been there for a short while this afternoon (taking his girlfriend there) she said I could go up on my own and she would follow later. He is now in another room on his own. It's quieter and more relaxed. Anyway: no one was there when I arrived and it's so different than when Angela is there too. So yes, it was nice! Having dad for myself for about 10 minutes. We basically talked about the weather and about how it had been when he was a kid. That they had winters worse than what we have now all the time. And also about later on in his working life: you didn't dare even think about not going to work because it had snowed! He told me a bit about the winter of 1942 and the one of 1945 how unbelievably cold it had been. Also about his job as a driver on an oil tanker. Some big stories and it brought a smile to his own face too. After about 10 minutes Angela also came up and we kept on reminiscine about past times. It was good, talking about something else. I liked being with him on my own for a bit too.
When we left he shook our hand again. He's normally never that physical, but since he is in the hospital he does that every time we leave. Weird on one hand, as I don't know him like that...nice on the other.
Tomorrow around 11:00 UTC he's scheduled for the big operation. Suffice to say we will be nervous wrecks about all day. We'll update you as soon as we have more information. Please send any positive thoughts you can spare his way, he'll need all the help he can get!!!
